Run the plant on Odoo, not the whiteboard.
Every sector has one process that generic ERP handles badly. Work orders live on a whiteboard and the BOM lives in someone's head. We start there, because fixing that is what makes the rest of the rollout worth doing.
—— Where it hurts
What usually breaks first.
The BOM on the floor is not the BOM in the file
Engineering keeps the master BOM in a spreadsheet, and the floor substitutes parts whenever something runs short — without recording it. Backflushing then deducts components that were never fitted, so on-hand counts drift week by week. By the annual stock take the write-off is big enough that nobody trusts the inventory figure in between.
Shortages discovered at kitting, not at planning
Without a live MRP run, the first person to learn a component is missing is the storeman kitting the work order. The purchase order goes out that afternoon with a rush surcharge, and the line waits. Promised ship dates come off a whiteboard, so sales finds out when the customer calls.
Finished goods valued at a guess
Materials are costed at a standard someone set years ago, labour is a flat allocation, and scrap and rework vanish into month-end COGS. Two products can look equally profitable while one quietly loses money on every run. Then the quote for the next order repeats the same error.
—— One system, no silos
Every module shares the same data.
Odoo for manufacturing is not one program — it is a set of modules reading and writing one database. The BOM, the stock level, the purchase order and the journal entry agree because they are the same record, not synchronised copies.
—— Honest assessment
Strengths and real limits.
A partner who says this ERP fits every factory is selling, not advising. This is the same read we give clients before they sign anything.
One record, not five copies
The BOM, stock move, purchase and journal entry live in one database. Most mid-size factories buy an integration project along with every other ERP — here that project does not exist.
Cost that scales with you
Community is a $0 licence and Enterprise is priced per user, billed by Odoo. Over five years the licence line is usually the smallest number in the business case — the big vendors cannot say that.
Fast first value
A focused scope goes live in weeks because configuration covers most of the ground. Faster live also means you discover what needs adjusting while the project team is still in the building.
You can change it
The platform is open. A routing rule specific to your shop floor is a development task with source code you own — not a negotiation with a vendor roadmap.
People actually use it
Screens are simple enough that operators keep the data current. An ERP the floor quietly abandons for spreadsheets fails regardless of its feature list.
—— What is actually in the box
The capabilities, group by group.
Pick a group on the left to see what it does — written from rollout experience, not from a brochure.
Manufacturing orders
The instruction to make this product, in this quantity, by this date — created by hand, from stock rules, or straight from a sales order.
- Auto-created from reordering rules or sales orders
- One-step or multi-step flows with picking and storing
- Live status from confirmation through done
—— Fit check
Who this actually fits.
Mid-size manufacturers
10-500 people with processes that outgrew spreadsheets.
Multi-site groups
Several plants and companies on one consolidated platform.
Made-to-order
Engineered or configured per customer, quoted from real costs.
Outsourced steps
Subcontracted machining, coating or finishing tracked in-line.
—— By sector
Six manufacturing processes we build for.
Sector
Cosmetics & Personal Care →
Lot traceability, FEFO expiry control and QC release for cosmetics and personal care factories — Odoo from a partner who knows batch production.
Sector
Electronics Assembly →
BOM revisions, reel-to-serial traceability and component sourcing in one Odoo system. Implementation for PCBA factories in Thailand, the USA and India.
Sector
Food & Beverage →
Recipe BOMs, expiry-dated lots, FEFO picking and two-way lot traceability in Odoo — set up for food and beverage plants in Thailand, the USA and India.
Sector
Furniture & Wood Manufacturing →
Made-to-order BOMs, CNC nesting, offcuts and finishing stages — Odoo implementation for furniture and wood factories in Thailand, the USA and India.
Sector
Metalworking & CNC Machining →
Job costing from the quote, traceability back to the mill cert, and work orders that replace the paper traveler. Odoo for machine shops, phase by phase.
Sector
Plastics & Packaging →
Odoo for injection moulding and converting plants — machine-hour costing, resin lot traceability, regrind and mould maintenance, implemented in phases.
—— Replacing an incumbent
Odoo for manufacturing vs the system you run today.
The honest comparison depends on what you are replacing, so each case has its own page — including the cases where we tell you the other system is the better fit.

—— Where you start
Three starting points we see most.
Where you start · 01
From spreadsheets
Orders, stock and costing live in files only one person understands. We move the highest-risk sheet first, so value lands in weeks, not quarters.
Where you start · 02
From a legacy system
The old ERP still runs, but nobody dares change it. We migrate in validated batches while it keeps trading, with a rollback point at every step.
Where you start · 03
Adding a site or a company
Growth broke the single-database assumption. We restructure for multi-company, multi-warehouse and consolidated books without stopping operations.
—— Modules
The modules this sector actually starts with.
- MRP
- Quality
- Maintenance
- PLM
—— How the rollout runs
A sector template, tuned to how you actually work.
Walk the process
We follow one real order end to end — quote to cash, or purchase to pay — before touching a configuration screen.
Configure the sector baseline
The modules this sector starts with go in first, configured against your master data rather than demo records.
Pilot with one team
One site, one team, one month. The pilot decides what scales, and its objections reshape the template before anything else ships.
Scale and hand over
Remaining sites onboard on a fixed rhythm, each with documentation and a trained super-user of its own.

—— FAQ
Questions teams ask about this service.
Which costing method should we run in Odoo — standard, FIFO or average?
For most SME manufacturers we set up average cost (AVCO) with perpetual valuation, because Odoo's standard-cost variance handling is thin compared with a full standard-costing ERP. Work centres carry hourly rates, and time logged on work orders flows into the cost of each manufacturing order. That gives you an actual cost per work order without maintaining a standards file nobody updates.
Can Odoo handle lot and serial traceability for customer audits and recalls?
Yes — lots and serials are native in Inventory and MRP, and the traceability report walks a lot upstream to the supplier receipt and downstream to every delivery it went into. If you run ISO 9001 or face customer audits, we add quality control points at receipt and final inspection so the records exist before the auditor asks. The part that actually decides success is scanning discipline at consumption, so we design the shop-floor screens around that.
Can Odoo talk to our machines and barcode scanners?
Barcode scanning is native — receipts, picks and work-order consumption can all run from a handheld or a tablet on the line. Direct machine or PLC integration is custom work over Odoo's API; it pays off for automatic counters and weigh scales, rarely for anything more exotic in a first phase. We scope it as its own phase with a fixed written price, so it never holds the core rollout hostage.
Let's find out whether Odoo actually fits your business.
A short call, an honest answer. If it isn't the right system for you, we'll say so.
